Amidst a tight security at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport,
president of the world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino
and the General Secretary, Ms Fatma Samoura yesterday arrived Nigeria
for a two day working visit.
Torching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport about 4.25pm
in a heroic welcome by hundreds of Nigerians, stakeholders of the
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that were on hand to receive him.
The host, the Nigeria Football Federation, made adequate security
arrangement as Security agents in plain clothes and uniforms who flooded
the airport, physically dominated the security arrangement within the
airport and at the arrival to ensure a seamless reception and ensured
that the threat from factional group did not come to disrupt the arrival
ceremony.
On hand to receive the FIFA president were the federation presidents of
different Africa countries, the chairman of Anambra state FA and
proprietor FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Dr Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah, members of the NFF
Executive Committee led by the federation President, Mr Pinnick Amaju.
The FIFA president and his team were accompanied to the presidential
suite of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, by the NFF president, Pinnick,
where he met with the NFF Board and the visiting FA presidents from
other African countries. There was also a cocktail dinner in the
programme for the night.
A total of 17 FA presidents from other African countries arrived in
Nigeria on Saturday to join the NFF in receiving Infantino. On Monday,
(Today) Infantino and Samoura, alongside Sports Minister Solomon Dalung,
NFF President Pinnick, chairmen of the Senate and House sports
committees, NFF General Secretary and other NFF Board members, and the
visiting FA presidents from other African countries, will pay a courtesy
call on President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
